Hunsdons vast expanse of concrete runways, perimeter track,
aircraft hardstands and dispersals were all lifted long ago for the hardcore market. All that remains today are the ten foot
wide strips that are used as roads around the site for agricultural vehicles.
The runways were a hundred and fifty foot wide and the perimeter
track was approximately forty feet wide during its operational use. Both runways were extended shortly after the airfield
opened in May 1941. The east-west was extended by 300 yards, and the north south secondary by 200 yards. A new
section of perimeter track was placed on the north western side with additional aircraft hardstands. Evidence of this can
be seen as the newer concrete mix is extremely stoney in contrast.
